The Fazer YS250 is a 250 cc touring bike.Which is specially meant for long distance touring.The Fazer 250 is already sold in Brazil and is making way into India in mid of 2013.The reason for Yamaha to introduce the Fazer 250 is to compete in the 250 cc bikes segment in India.The 250 cc segment is growing in India with the Indian youth looking for higher displacement bikes.And Kawasaki Ninja 250R selling more than anticipated by the company and also the Ninja 650R gained traction with the price point for the bike.Hyosung also had some success in Indian market with their GT 650R offering.Yamaha also plans for the launch of Yamaha R4 250 cc which is meant for racing like the Yamaha R15 some time around in 2013.It is possible that it may be released along with the Fazer 250.
It looks like a bit old school design from the looks of the bike but the front naked look provided by the small headlight make it look somewhat modern.But the over all look of the bike is good.As the bike is meant for touring Yamaha might not have stressed on a sporty design where the rider would be made to seat in a sporty position as this type of position is not good for a touring Motorcycle which is meant for comfort in long distance touring.The grab rail is a single piece one.The silencer is in black color covered with stainless to prevent heat.The bike has open ‘O’ ring chain.The rear pillion seat is attached to the front seat.The tail light looks like that on the Yamaha R6.The bike has both front and rear disc brakes on the right hand side of the wheel which is a common configuration for tourer bikes.Where as some sports bikes like the Yamaha R125 use a different combination with the front disc brake on the left hand side and the rear brake on the right side of the wheel.The engine is in complete white color.The alloy wheels are 10 spoke by design but look-alike a 5 spoke.The alloy wheels are black.The foot pegs of the pillion rider and the rider are positioned low for comfortable riding.The ground clearance of the bike is 190 mm which s very high than the recently launched KTM Duke 200 which is an off-road bike which only has 170 mm.The ground clearance can help the bike in crossing over obstacles with ease and that means It can be ridden on the most toughest roads too along with city riding.The dry weight of the bike is 137 kg.The speedometer is digital and tacchometer for RPM is present there are four indicators on the side speedometer they are neutral,Turn,Headlamp and Oil change indicators.
The engine is a four-stroke single cylinder engine with 2 valves and an OHC conifguration with a 249 cc displacement.The engine is air cooled and the compression ratio is 9.8:1.The engine is fuel injected for better mileage.The engine develops 21 hp at 8,000 rpm and 20.5 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm.The early delivery of torque will make you feel comfortable and no need to change the gears when ever the traffic jams.And you don’t need to twist the throttle too much for power delivery.The fuel tan capacity is 19.2 litres.The clutch s wet multiple disc type and matched to a 5 speed gear box.
Chassis and Suspension:
A double cradle steel frame is used.The front suspension is Telescopic fork and the rear is Mono damped as opposed to the Monocross and Monoshock seen on Yamaha bikes in India.
Tyres and Brakes:
The front tyre is 100/8o 17 inch and the rear one is 130/70 17 inch.
The front brake is 282 mm Hydraulic disc and the rear is 220 mm disc.
The bike is meant for city and highway riding pleasure.The 120 mm front and rear suspension travel ensures comfortable riding.The riding posture for the rider and pillion offers long distance touring with out back pains.The engine revs smooth when in low speeds.The engine makes noise during top speeds.The suspension is good in adverse conditions also.

It will be available in middle of 2013 and the rpicing is aggressive at 1,25,000 Ex-showroom.
There are three colors available Black,Red and purple.
It is not packed with technology like the Yamaha R15 but it offers value for money with a 21 hp and comfortable city and highway riding.This bike is most suitable for those looking for a higher displacement bike to travel in and around the city which has nice mileage.If you are looking for a sporty 250 cc machine you can go with the Yamaha R4 250 cc bike from Yamaha and many others are available in the Indian Market.
