Design:

Exterior:

The exterior shape of the car looks identical to Sunny but the details on both the cars look different with the addition of a fluence like front grille to the Scala which is an effort to distinguish it from sunny. The headlights are free from housing the turn lights(as seen on Nissan Sunny) on Scala as the turn lights are electronically controlled OVRM turn indicators. The exterior dimensions remains the same and the back on this car looks more stylish thanks to its chrome bar which sits in the middle of rear lights under the renault logo with Scala name embodied on it although this is a minor addition this projects the premium value of the car.The rear lights although they remain identical in their shape their design was redone although may not be intended they look like Skoda inspired. The boot has a capacity of 490 litres which is very helpful during long trips when there is lot of luggage to be carried. The car has 15 inch alloy wheels as standard.

Interior:

Renault projects it as a premium car manufacturer with an affordable price. The company  knows how cost conscious the Indian consumer is and so the interior design takes a special treatment the interiors have a premium look and lavish feel. The single tone Beige interiors and the dual color silver and black color dash are made from high quality fabric. The air conditioning system has automatic climatic control which can regulate temperature and humidity by using both cooling and heating is a welcome addition.

Engines:

There are two engine variants available Petrol and Diesel. The diesel engine used in Scala is 1461 cc K9K engine which also does it service on Nissan Sunny and Renault Duster. The engine produces a peak horse power of about 85 bhp and produces a peak torque output of 200 Nm.The K9K engine which is the second most prolific engine after the Fiat Multi jet in India and has a claimed mileage figure ranging from 18 to 21 km in city and highways respectively. The engine is also known for its smoothness and better acceleration with 0-100 speeds in less than 15 seconds.

The petrol engines are XH2 with 1498 cc producing peak horsepower of 97 bh and maximum torque output of 134Nm.The petrol engine mileage figure of 17 kmpl. The car can reach 100 km/hr in 13 seconds in petrol engine variant.

Verdict:

The car is a rebadged version of A3 class sedan Sunny with visual tweaks here and there and no other changes to the interior space or boot space from the sunny.Sunny is an all round performer and was well received in India. The Scala as a rebadged version of Sunny can continue the same mass following that sunny receives now with its polished looks but the car is over priced than Sunny. So it is up to the buyer to decide whether to go for scala and pay more rather than opting for Nissan Sunny.
